Understand Ang Thong

Ang Thong is a small province in Thailand's central lowlands, within easy reach of Bangkok and neighbouring Ayutthaya. It covers 968.37 square kilometres and is divided into seven districts; Mueang Ang Thong is the practical base for provincial services and road connections.

The province is especially rewarding for travellers interested in religious heritage, local craftsmanship and an unhurried rural day trip. Tourism Authority of Thailand highlights include the reclining Buddha at Wat Khun Inthapramun, the historic reclining Buddha at Wat Pa Mok Worawihan, and the province's many temples, which form a substantial part of its cultural landscape.

Traditional skills remain an important reason to visit. Ban Bang Sadet is associated with royal court dolls, while local communities are known for drum making, clay bricks and wickerwork. Ban Bang Chao Cha is highlighted for basketry, and seasonal flower fields add another rural experience when in bloom.

Most journeys to and around Ang Thong are road-based. TAT presents the province as close enough to Bangkok for a day trip, but travellers who want to combine several temples and craft villages should allow a full day and arrange dependable local transport.
