Understand Buri Ram

Buri Ram is a province in lower northeastern Thailand, combining broad agricultural landscapes with a chain of extinct volcanic features and a substantial legacy of Khmer-period architecture. Mueang Buri Ram is the main transport and service centre, while the province's 23 districts provide the right level for more local planning.

The signature cultural journey is south through Prakhon Chai and Chaloem Phra Kiet districts to Phanom Rung Historical Park, a major Khmer sanctuary built on an extinct volcano. Nearby Prasat Muang Tam can be paired with it on the same trip, while Nong Hong Sanctuary is another officially highlighted heritage site. Allow an early start, sun protection and time to walk on exposed stone surfaces.

Buri Ram's character also comes from living Isan culture. Na Pho is associated with mudmee silk, and village weaving traditions remain an important part of the province's identity. In the provincial capital, football and motorsport have added a modern sports dimension, with Chang Arena among the best-known visitor landmarks.
