Understand Hua Hin

Hua Hin is a coastal city and one of Thailand's longest-established resort destinations, on the western shore of the Gulf of Thailand in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. Hua Hin City Municipality covers 86.36 square kilometres across Hua Hin and Nong Kae subdistricts and was elevated from town-municipality to city-municipality status on 28 March 2025. The municipality reported approximately 66,000 registered residents in June 2025; that figure does not include its much larger floating population or visitors.

For travellers, Hua Hin combines an urban beach, seafood dining, night markets, golf and a broad range of accommodation. Khao Takiab and its bay lie to the south within the municipal area, while destinations such as Pa La-U Waterfall are farther inland and should be planned as separate trips rather than treated as central-city stops.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand lists train, bus and car as ways to reach Hua Hin. Hua Hin railway station serves the central area; onward journeys to Nong Kae, Khao Takiab and inland attractions require local transport. Rail and road schedules can change, so confirm current times with the relevant operator before departure.

Hua Hin is visitable throughout the year, but beach and outdoor plans should be adjusted for current weather and sea conditions.
