About Roi Et
Roi Et is a northeastern province with a provincial capital organised around Bueng Phlan Chai and an extensive rural hinterland. Rice cultivation, weaving and local festivals contribute to its identity, while major religious and archaeological destinations lie in several different districts.
Wat Buraphaphiram and Wat Klang Ming Mueang are cultural stops in the town. Ku Kasing preserves Khmer-era architecture, and the Pha Nam Yoi area is associated with Wat Pha Nam Thip Thep Prasit Wanaram and Phra Maha Chedi Chai Mongkhon. Textile and craft shopping offers another way to encounter local work without relying solely on monumental sights.
Base a short stay around the town or plan a wider road itinerary for the distant temple and archaeological sites. Confirm the specific destination and onward transport; the large province cannot be explored as a single walkable area. Rocket festivals and other community events follow local programmes that should be checked before travel. Use sun protection at exposed sites, respect temple dress requirements and ask permission before photographing workshops or ceremonies.
Roi Et Province covers 8,299.45 square kilometres and had 20 districts, 193 subdistricts and 2447 villages at 31 December 2024. Its 2024 registered population was 1,275,519; this is a whole-province civil-registration count, distinct from the capital city or an estimate of visitors.
November to February generally offers cooler conditions for outdoor visits. The hotter period and the rains bring different travel considerations, with rain usually increasing from around May to October; check current forecasts for your route.
