Coverage beats the biggest allowance
Choose a network based on the places you will stay, not only an airport promotion. Coverage can differ inside buildings, on islands and in remote areas. Check whether a plan is full-speed data, capped-speed unlimited use or subject to a fair-use reduction.
Register through a legitimate channel
Thai SIM registration requires identity checks. Use an official operator store or clearly authorised seller, confirm the number and validity period, and keep access to the registered account. Avoid handing a passport to an unknown street seller.
Test before committing to home broadband
Ask the building which fibre providers can actually install to the unit. Compare installation fees, minimum term, router ownership, relocation, cancellation and service response. Mobile tethering may be a useful bridge but can be limited by hotspot terms.
Protect the number that protects your accounts
A local number often becomes the recovery channel for banks and services. Set a SIM PIN, enable account security, maintain validity during travel and update important accounts before cancelling. Treat unexpected requests to move a SIM or share an OTP as fraud.
