Festival dates may follow lunar calendars and local programmes, so confirm the current provincial schedule. A national name can cover very different events: family and temple observance, civic parades, concerts and tourist celebrations may happen side by side.
Songkran is more than a water fight
Thai New Year includes family visits, merit-making and respectful water traditions as well as large public celebrations. Protect devices, use clean water, avoid targeting monks, babies, elderly people, drivers or unwilling participants, and never throw water into moving traffic.
Loy Krathong requires local guidance
Practices and environmental rules differ by location. Use materials permitted by organisers and dispose of waste responsibly. Sky lanterns are controlled or prohibited in some places because of aviation and fire risk; never launch one without current local authorisation.
