Choose a legitimate pharmacy
Look for a clearly identified pharmacy and ask to speak with the pharmacist when advice is needed. Explain symptoms, medical conditions, allergies and current medicines. A quick sale is not a substitute for assessment when symptoms are severe, persistent or unclear.
Check the active ingredient
Brand names differ between countries and similar packaging can hide different strengths. Confirm the generic name, dose, directions, interactions, expiry and storage conditions. Keep the labelled package and receipt, particularly when continuing treatment across borders.
Controlled medicines need special care
Thai rules for narcotic and psychotropic medicines can require permits or limit quantities carried by travellers. Check Thai FDA guidance before travel and keep prescriptions or medical letters. Do not mail or carry medicine for another person without understanding the law.
Know when a pharmacy is not enough
Chest pain, serious breathing difficulty, neurological symptoms, severe allergic reaction, major injury, persistent dehydration or rapidly worsening illness requires clinical or emergency care. Ask the pharmacist for the nearest appropriate service rather than repeatedly trying over-the-counter products.
