About Phum Riang Subdistrict

Phum Riang (พุมเรียง) is a subdistrict in Chaiya District, Surat Thani, at the northern end of Bandon Bay. Heritage records describe the old community around the mouth of Khlong Phum Riang and its traditional waterside buildings.

Local textile knowledge is an important part of its identity. Government cultural sources describe raised-pattern weaving using silk and metallic threads, passed down through generations of Thai Muslim families.

The Queen Sirikit Department of Sericulture documented a visit to the Phum Riang silk museum and weaving group in February 2026. These are individual cultural destinations within the wider tambon; confirm current visiting arrangements with each group rather than assuming one opening schedule for the whole community.
