FAQ

Does compulsory motor insurance in Thailand cover all accident costs?

No. Thailand's compulsory motor insurance is focused on statutory injury benefits for road victims; it should not be treated as comprehensive vehicle, property or liability cover.

Overview

Thailand's compulsory motor insurance under the Protection for Motor Vehicle Victims framework provides defined statutory benefits for bodily injury, death or disability, subject to the law and policy terms. It is not the same as voluntary motor insurance and should not be assumed to cover damage to your vehicle, theft, all third-party property damage or every liability arising from an accident. Before driving, confirm that the vehicle's compulsory cover is current and compare any voluntary policy's class, named or permitted drivers, repair basis, deductibles, bail bond, roadside help, territorial limits and exclusions. Verify the current certificate and wording with the insurer or Office of Insurance Commission rather than relying on a rental advertisement or verbal assurance.
