What has changed

Pattaya City is preparing rescue, medical and logistical support for an international sailing competition at Royal Varuna Yacht Club in December, The Pattaya News reported on 5 November. The club’s calendar and ILCA Asia list the sixth ILCA Asian and Open Championships for 11–20 December at the venue in Pratamnak.

Racing starts on 16 December

The organiser sets aside 11–13 December for training and preparation, followed by registration and equipment checks on 14 December. A practice race and opening ceremony are scheduled for 15 December. Championship racing runs from 16 to 20 December, with prizes and the closing ceremony on the final day. The competition covers ILCA 4, 6 and 7 dinghies, with youth and adult divisions.

The local report gives 9–20 December in its account of preparations. Competitors and visitors should use the organiser’s published programme for event and race dates. ILCA Asia lists 15 November as the regular entry application deadline, with applications subject to district or national association endorsement.

Rescue boats and pier space

The local report says the city plans to provide two inflatable rescue boats, barriers and temporary space for boats at Bali Hai Pier. Municipal officers and police are expected to help with security, with medical and cleaning services also planned. Organisers expect around 250–300 people, including sailors, coaches, officials and accompanying visitors.

The event programme is written for competitors. Anyone hoping to watch should confirm public access with the club before travelling to the venue. The reported plans for boat space at Bali Hai do not establish a change to public ferry services.
