What you need to know
What has changed
Travellers in eastern and southern Thailand should keep plans flexible through 25 October after the Thai Meteorological Department issued a fresh heavy-rain advisory on Thursday, 22 October. The warning describes continuing rain with isolated heavy to very heavy downpours in those two regions.
Thunderstorms with gusty winds are also forecast in the lower North, lower Northeast and lower Central region, including Bangkok and surrounding areas. This is a regional forecast, rather than confirmation that every destination is flooded or that every journey is disrupted.
What the advisory warns about
TMD says accumulated rainfall can increase the risk of flash floods, overflowing waterways and landslides, particularly near foothills and in low-lying areas. Local conditions matter: a broad warning should be checked against the latest forecast and information for the specific place you intend to visit.
At sea, the department warns that waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand can exceed three metres within thunderstorms. It advises vessels to proceed cautiously and avoid thunderstorm areas.
Before a transfer or boat trip
Check the latest TMD bulletin and ask your transport operator about the actual service you plan to use. A weather advisory alone does not establish that a ferry, tour, flight or road is closed; equally, a booking does not establish that conditions will remain suitable.
For an outing dependent on calm seas or a long road transfer, leave room to change arrangements in response to local instructions. Read newer bulletins before setting out, rather than relying solely on an article checked earlier in the day.
The advisory used here is No. 11 (270/2026), effective at 5am Thailand time on 22 October. TMD scheduled the next issue for 5pm the same day. Current warnings are available through TMD's warning page; its call centre is 1182.
