Ko Bangu is the northern island commonly numbered nine in the original Similan chain. It is a physical island within Mu Ko Similan National Park and administratively belongs to Ko Phra Thong Subdistrict, Khura Buri District, Phang Nga. It should not be confused with Ko Similan, the island usually numbered eight.
The tourism authorities associate Bangu with unusual rock formations and the Christmas Point underwater boulder site. DNP marine surveys separately identify Ao Nam Chai and Ao Khon Kae around Bangu. These are locations around the island, rather than a promise that every sightseeing or dive itinerary visits all of them.
Bangu is reached on authorised Similan boat or dive itineraries. Confirm the sites and landing permissions for the particular trip; a dive stop does not establish public beach access. TAT reported the Similan Islands' seasonal reopening on 15 October 2026 and electronic park tickets. Check the current park notice and marine forecast before departure.
