Ko Mattra lies offshore from the Mueang Chumphon coast within Mu Ko Chumphon National Park. Thai sources use both เกาะมาตรา and เกาะมัตรา. DMCR's island inventory assigns it to Pak Nam Subdistrict. It is distinct from Ko Mattaphon near the mouth of Chumphon's river.
The island's beach and rocky coast form the setting for shallow-water reef visits. TAT includes Mattra in its Chumphon island itinerary, and official marine research describes coral habitats around it. Mattra lies farther offshore than the small coastal island of Mattaphon; the similar names identify different places.
Arrange a permitted park boat or snorkeling itinerary through mainland Chumphon operators, confirming its actual departure pier. Ask the park or operator about landing permission, admission and any available facilities or overnight arrangements. The 2026 DNP closure declaration lists Ko Mattra among marine attractions closed from 1 November to 15 December. Check subsequent notices, visibility and sea conditions before committing to the crossing.
