Ko Similan is the individual island numbered eight in Mu Ko Similan National Park. It is distinct from the entire Similan archipelago that shares its name. The island's administrative location is Ko Phra Thong Subdistrict, Khura Buri District, Phang Nga.
Setting and highlights
Large granite formations frame its bays, and the Sail Rock viewpoint is a recognisable landmark above the shoreline. Beach stops and offshore snorkelling are common reasons to visit, although a tour's permitted stops depend on park arrangements and sea conditions.
Getting there
Visitors normally arrive on organised boats from the Phang Nga mainland, with Thap Lamu a principal departure area. Confirm that Island Eight is included rather than assuming that every trip advertised as 'Similan' lands here.
