About Phichit
Phichit Province is associated with river-plain settlement, agriculture and the Krai Thong–Chalawan crocodile legend. The provincial town provides a base for temple visits and Bueng Si Fai, while the wider province contains older settlements and communities beyond the town.
Bueng Si Fai is an important freshwater wetland and recreation area. Wat Tha Luang is a principal religious landmark; Phichit Old City Park preserves remains of an earlier settlement. Wat Pho Prathap Chang and the Wang Krot market area offer further historical and community context. Traditional longboat racing is a notable local event, with the annual programme requiring confirmation.
A town-based visit can combine the lake and nearby temples, while outlying heritage stops need onward transport. Check the correct station or road stop for your accommodation and arrange a return journey when travelling beyond the centre. Use cooler parts of the day for wetland walks and carry water and sun protection. Festival dates and market activity vary; ask before photographing ceremonies and use designated public access around water.
Phichit Province covers 4,531.01 square kilometres and had 12 districts, 89 subdistricts and 890 villages at 31 December 2024. Its 2024 registered population was 517,308; this is a whole-province civil-registration count, distinct from the capital city or an estimate of visitors.
November to February generally offers cooler conditions for outdoor visits. The hotter period and the rains bring different travel considerations, with rain usually increasing from around May to October; check current forecasts for your route.
