About Samo Thong Subdistrict
Samo Thong (สมอทอง) is a subdistrict of Tha Chana District, Surat Thani. It adjoins Khlong Pha to the north, Prasong to the south and west, and the Tha Chana area to the east.
The council's plan describes lower land east of Highway 41, suited to rice and livestock, and higher or wooded land west of the road with rubber, oil palm, coffee and fruit crops.
Local tradition connects the name with a golden anchor from a ship seeking a safe stopping place. Samo Thong's administrative boundary is wider than its SAO service area: parts are served by Tha Chana Municipality. This is the Surat Thani tambon, separate from Samo Thong in Uthai Thani.
