About Samut Prakan

Samut Prakan is a separate province adjoining Bangkok, extending across lower Chao Phraya communities and the Gulf coast. Its proximity to the capital makes day trips possible, but it is not a Bangkok district and its attractions are spread across different river and road approaches.

The Ancient City and Erawan Museum are major visitor attractions. Wat Asokaram and the historic forts provide religious and historical context, while Si Nakhon Khuean Khan Park and the Bang Kachao area offer green space and a slower pace. Riverside and coastal places give a different perspective from the province's busy urban corridors.

Plan around the actual attraction and river bank rather than the province name alone. Compare the complete outward and return journey, including any final local transfer; a route suitable for one site may be inconvenient for another. Check each venue's opening and admission information independently. Keep to designated cycling or walking routes in community areas, ask before entering private land and follow local instructions beside busy waterways.

Samut Prakan Province covers 1,004.09 square kilometres and had 6 districts, 50 subdistricts and 399 villages at 31 December 2024. Its 2024 registered population was 1,380,826; this is a whole-province civil-registration count, distinct from the capital city or an estimate of visitors.
