About Sisaket
Sisaket, also written Si Sa Ket, lies in northeastern Thailand beside Cambodia. Its provincial town is a service base for an extensive rural province, where cultural heritage reflects long-standing Khmer, Lao, Kuy and other community traditions.
Prang Ku's Khmer remains, Wat Mahaphuttharam and Wat Pa Maha Chedi Kaeo provide examples of the province's religious and architectural variety. Fruit-growing areas are another part of local identity. Frontier heritage needs special care: Preah Vihear temple is in Cambodia, and an older guide describing access from Thailand should not be treated as a current crossing arrangement.
Plan inland temple and community visits separately from any border-area itinerary. Check the specific destination, road approach and local access before departure, with enough time for onward travel across the province. As reviewed on 25 October 2026, FCDO reports suspended Thailand–Cambodia land crossings, closures at some frontier attractions and advice against all but essential travel within 20 km of the border. Consult current official guidance before a frontier journey.
Sisaket Province covers 8,839.98 square kilometres and had 22 districts, 206 subdistricts and 2633 villages at 31 December 2024. Its 2024 registered population was 1,442,013; this is a whole-province civil-registration count, distinct from the capital city or an estimate of visitors.
November to February generally offers cooler conditions for outdoor visits. The hotter period and the rains bring different travel considerations, with rain usually increasing from around May to October; check current forecasts for your route.
