About Yasothon
Yasothon Province sits in lower northeastern Thailand (Isan), across landscapes within the Chi and Mun river basins. It covers 4,161.664 square kilometres and is divided into nine districts; Mueang Yasothon is the practical base for the provincial capital and old town.
The province suits travellers seeking a quieter Isan trip shaped by regional culture, Buddhist heritage, agricultural landscapes and community crafts. Official tourism sources highlight the Ban Sing Tha old quarter, Phra That Yasothon, That Kong Khao Noi, Phaya Thaen Park and the khit triangular-pillow craft of Ban Si Than. Use the district pages to place each stop at the correct local level.
Bun Bang Fai, staged around the start of the rainy season, is Yasothon's best-known festival. Dates and local arrangements vary each year, so confirm the current official programme before booking travel and accommodation.
Yasothon is reached mainly by road. Official visitor information describes highway access from Bangkok and long-distance bus services. Roi Et Airport is a regional air gateway developed to serve Yasothon and neighbouring provinces, but every flight option requires an onward road transfer. Outlying district centres are up to about 70 kilometres from Mueang Yasothon, so allow time and confirm current bus, driver or vehicle arrangements for trips beyond the capital.
The cool, relatively dry period from November to early February is generally the easiest time for sightseeing. The hot season runs roughly from mid-February to mid-May, and the rainy season from mid-May to mid-October. May offers the signature rocket-festival experience but hotter, changeable weather; April is typically the hottest month and August the wettest in the provincial climate summary.
For a short visit, base yourself in Mueang Yasothon and add district trips according to available transport. Dress respectfully at religious sites, carry sun or rain protection for the season, and check current event dates, weather and attraction access with official sources before setting out.
