Overview

About Wat Yanasangwararam Woramahavihara

Wat Yanasangwararam Woramahavihara is a Buddhist monastery at 999 Moo 11 in Huai Yai, Bang Lamung. Founded on land donated in 1976, it was named for Somdet Phra Yanasangwon, the 19th Supreme Patriarch, and was raised to first-class royal-monastery status in 1988. The extensive grounds contain distinct religious and commemorative buildings, including the ordination hall, the Phra Boromthat Chedi Maha Chakripipat stupa and the hilltop Phra Maha Mondop Buddha-footprint pavilion. The main listing gives ordinary opening of 08:00–17:00 daily. Contact 081 586 0188 to check particular buildings, ceremonies or meditation arrangements before a dedicated visit.

Choose the buildings to visit

Ordination hall and central stupa

The ordination hall was modelled on Wat Bowonniwet’s Vihara Rangsi building. The distinct central stupa honours the Chakri dynasty and is described as containing relics and a footprint replica.

Hilltop footprint pavilion

The Phra Maha Mondop stands on Khao Kaew Hill and has its own stair approach. The temple’s architectural page describes 200 steps; check access separately from the main monastery grounds.

Grounds and visitor arrangements

Lakeside pavilions

The temple describes eight international pavilions near the entrance reservoir, including Thai regional styles and contributions from Singapore, Japan, India and Switzerland. Plan the route around the areas open to visitors.

Worship and meditation

The monastery publishes meditation information through a linked dedicated site. Ask about the current programme, registration, language and conduct requirements rather than assuming an unbooked retreat is available.

Plan the visit

Building access and ceremonies

General 08:00–17:00 opening may differ from individual exhibition or worship-room access. Ask which buildings are open and whether ceremonies affect visiting.

Arrival and practical needs

Use the official monastery map and 999 Moo 11 address. Maps lists accessible parking, entrance and toilet facilities; confirm the route to the buildings you want to visit, as the hilltop mondop has a substantial staircase. Dress respectfully in worship areas.

Useful questions

Is the hilltop mondop the same building as the central stupa?

No. The official architectural list treats them as separate structures. The mondop is on Khao Kaew Hill, while the central Phra Boromthat Chedi has three levels.

Can I join meditation without arranging it?

Contact the monastery or its dedicated meditation programme for current registration and attendance requirements.

Do all buildings follow the general opening hours?

Confirm the specific buildings you want to enter. The main listed schedule does not guarantee that every room or hilltop structure is open throughout it.
