What you need to know
What has changed
Marine officials have stepped up boat safety inspections at South Pattaya Pier ahead of the high tourism season, with operators reminded to have passengers wearing life jackets before departure.
Pattaya Mail’s 25 October report says the checks took place on 24 October under the Pattaya Model strategy. Inspectors examined operator certificates, vessel paperwork, seaworthiness, engine noise and onboard safety equipment.
What passengers should check
The public message is practical: life jackets should be worn before a vessel leaves the pier. As travel advice, ask the crew for help with the fit and fastening, particularly for children, and raise any concern while the boat is still alongside.
The inspection report does not provide a list of failed vessels, announce cancelled services or certify every departure as safe. Confirm the arrangements for the specific boat being used, rather than treating a general inspection programme as a guarantee.
A recent reminder about equipment
In a separate report published on 24 October, Pattaya Mail described a fishing boat assisted near Koh Jun after a battery-system problem on 23 October. Marine officers restarted its engine and escorted it back to Bali Hai Pier without incident. That earlier rescue is background to the importance of equipment checks, not a new incident today.
Before an island trip
Confirm the operator, boarding point and return arrangements before setting out. Follow crew instructions and check weather-related service information close to departure. If safety equipment appears unsuitable or instructions are unclear, resolve the issue with the operator before boarding.
The latest inspection report concerns vessel and passenger safety. It should be read separately from Thailand Navigator’s earlier coverage of the designated pontoon construction area at Bali Hai.
