What has changed
Five leopards, including two black panthers, were reported together in Kaeng Krachan National Park on Sunday, 25 October, in a sighting that park officials intend to add to their wildlife monitoring records.
Hua Hin Today’s 26 October report and Thai-language accounts describe the animals appearing near the Ban Krang road. A wildlife photographer recorded a female black panther and a male spotted leopard; the other three animals moved into roadside vegetation before they could be photographed.
Five reported, two recorded
That distinction matters when interpreting the photographs. The published account describes five animals being seen, but does not claim that all five appear together in the recorded images. Thai Post and TNN’s report via TrueID give the same account of two black panthers and three spotted leopards.
Park chief Mongkol Chaiyaphakdi’s initial assessment suggested that the animals could be approximately two to three years old and might be siblings. Hua Hin Today makes clear that their ages and family relationship require further scientific evidence. They should not yet be described as a confirmed litter.
How the evidence will be used
The photographer has agreed to provide the images and footage to the authorities for education and research, according to the reports. Officials plan to combine them with the park’s camera-trap and sighting database to study behaviour and distribution.
Park officials also described reviewing patrol arrangements to reduce disturbance. A memorable sighting can provide useful conservation data; it does not, by itself, establish the size or long-term trend of the park’s leopard population.
What visitors should take from the news
The sighting is a wildlife record, not a promise that visitors will see the same animals. As practical advice, keep to permitted routes, follow park staff instructions and give wildlife space. Do not feed, approach or attempt to draw an animal back toward the road for a photograph.
The reported location is in Kaeng Krachan National Park, rather than Hua Hin city. Check the park’s current entry and route arrangements when planning a visit; this report does not announce any new public access area.
