About Mu Ko Lanta
The two main islands support communities, roads and visitor services, while surrounding islands and marine sites offer a different kind of outing. Ko Lanta District is the useful shared administrative parent. The geographic island group should be distinguished from Mu Ko Lanta National Park: the protected area covers selected land and marine sites and includes more remote islands, rather than matching every part of the inhabited archipelago.
Use the main islands as a base and arrange separate excursions for offshore sites. Confirm whether your route is a road-and-ferry transfer to an inhabited island or a boat trip into a protected marine zone. DNP lists a 16 May-31 October closure period for the national park; ask which attraction or offshore zone it covers. That notice should not be interpreted as closure of all communities and businesses on Lanta Yai or Lanta Noi.
