What you need to know
What has changed
Road users should expect restrictions around the Grand Palace and Sanam Luang today, Saturday 31 October, during rehearsals for the Royal Cremation Ceremony of Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother.
The Metropolitan Police Bureau’s announcement, carried by FM91 Trafficpro and other Thai media on 30 October, asks motorists to plan ahead and use alternative routes. The affected area is Bangkok’s historic Rattanakosin district, rather than the whole city.
Morning restrictions begin at 06:30
Reports agree that the morning rehearsal period runs from 06:30 to noon, with processions moving through the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Sanam Luang area.
Roads identified for traffic management include Maha Rat, Thai Wang, Sanam Chai, Ratchadamnoen Nai, Na Phra Lan and Na Phra That, alongside other nearby streets. Controls may be applied in stages as each procession moves.
Check again before afternoon travel
Published reports give different afternoon and evening time ranges. FM91 describes an overall programme extending to 19:30, while Nation TV carries a later afternoon session and an end time of 20:30.
Because those accounts differ, travellers should not rely on a single promised reopening time. Follow the latest police directions for the road you need, particularly if travelling later in the day.
Plan an alternative approach
The Nation reports police advice to allow an additional one to two hours. Suggested alternatives include Tanao, Fueang Nakhon, Dinso and Ratchadamnoen Klang roads, depending on the direction of travel and the restrictions in force.
A named alternative is not a guarantee of a clear or unrestricted journey throughout the day. Ask your driver or transport operator to check the current approach and pick-up point.
Anyone visiting an attraction, attending an appointment or meeting relatives in the district should confirm access directly before departure. Leave flexibility for the final walk, keep procession routes clear and follow officers’ instructions at controlled junctions.
This is a traffic update for today’s rehearsal. It does not confirm normal opening arrangements for individual attractions.
