What you need to know
What has changed
Residents at high-risk addresses around Patak sois 2, 4 and 6 in Karon, Phuket, have been told to evacuate temporarily after warnings issued on 29 October that heavy rain could trigger landslides and mudflows.
The Nation reports an urgent warning from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM). Local reporting by The Phuket News also describes Karon Municipality’s warning for specified households at the foot of the hill behind Wat Kata.
Check whether the warning covers your address
The municipal notice identifies affected households by house number, with particular attention to the three sois. Residents and visitors staying nearby should check the current notice with local officials or their accommodation provider rather than assuming every property in Karon faces the same instructions.
The designated temporary evacuation centres are Ban Kata School (Trithat Uppatham) and Wat Suwan Khiri Khet, also known as Wat Karon. Follow officials’ directions to a safe location or the appropriate shelter.
Prepare to leave safely
The reported DDPM guidance asks affected households to take important documents, essential medication and necessary belongings. Give particular attention to children, older people, people with disabilities and anyone who needs assistance moving.
Avoid foothills, waterways and steep slopes during heavy rain. The warning says people should not return to high-risk areas until authorities confirm that it is safe. A reduction in rain alone should not be treated as an official all-clear.
Keep the separate flood warning in mind
Authorities have also warned low-lying communities near Bang Yai Canal in Phuket City about rising water. That is a separate affected area and warning, rather than an extension of the Karon address list.
For travellers, confirm road and accommodation access before setting out, and follow local barriers or diversions. Do not enter a restricted area to look at conditions or take photographs.
Disaster-related assistance is available through the DDPM hotline on 1784. This update reports notices issued today; follow subsequent municipal and DDPM announcements for changes to the affected area, shelter arrangements or permission to return.
