About Ko Tarutao
The island is one component of a much larger marine national park and should not be confused with the park or its offshore Adang–Rawi group. Its mountainous interior, coastal mangroves and bays support a different visit from the resort-focused atmosphere of Ko Lipe. Ao Phante Malacca, Ao Molae and Ao Son are useful coastal names for orientation; the former penal settlement is an important part of the island history.
Pak Bara is the main mainland gateway. Agree the landing point and onward transport before setting out, and check park accommodation or camping availability directly. The official 2026 notice distinguishes Tarutao accommodation and camping from seasonal closures affecting outer islands. Do not assume a closure announcement for Adang or Rawi closes all of Tarutao.
