About Hat Som Paen Subdistrict
Hat Som Paen (หาดส้มแป้น) is a subdistrict in Mueang Ranong District, Ranong. It lies in the granite foothill landscape east of the city, rather than being a coastal beach despite the word hat in its name.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment identifies local kaolin deposits around Ban Hat Som Paen and Ban Thung Kha, in an area formerly worked for tin and tungsten. The fine white clay is used in ceramics and sanitaryware.
Community ceramics connect this geological resource with local production. The subdistrict authority lists the Ban Hat Som Paen ceramics group among its community products. Contact individual groups for current workshop or visiting arrangements.
