About Khao Niwet Subdistrict
Khao Niwet (เขานิเวศน์) is a subdistrict in Mueang Ranong District, Ranong, associated with the city's historic centre. Government heritage records locate Ranong Old Town in Khao Niwet.
The old-town record describes commercial streets around Tha Mueang, Rueang Rat and Thawi Sinkha, with shop-house architecture combining Chinese and European influences. The wider heritage area also includes the former government-centre quarter.
The reconstructed Rattanarangsan Palace is another local landmark, commemorating royal visits to Ranong. It is a separate visitor destination within the urban area. Old-town conservation boundaries, individual monuments and the whole Khao Niwet tambon have different scopes, so use a specific street or landmark address for a visit.
